Question

depreciation for room rental in primary home and deductions at the time of selling

Hello,

I have been renting rooms in my primary home to long term and/or short term tenants. Since certain percentage of the house is being rented I am also claiming depreciation for certain percentage of the house as well as bathroom remodels for the rental.

Now my question is, hypothetically, if I want to sell my house how do you file taxes for the depreciation already taken vs any improvement done to the house?

Thanks in advance for your response.

You report the sale of your home as the sale of a residence.

TurboTax will ask you about prior rental activity and prior depreciation.
