Currently completing 2018 taxes. Why would there be differing amounts in boxes 12 (C and D), 16, and 17 on the same W2 as reflected in the multiple Filing and Reference Copy. W2 is from the same company I worked for all year AND worked only in one state that year.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the multiple Filing and Reference Copy." The employee's copy of a standard W-2 has Copy B to attach to your federal tax return if you file by mail, Copy C for you to keep for your records, and Copy 2 to attach to your state tax return if you file by mail.

Are you saying that on the W-2 that you received from your employer the amounts in certain boxes are not the same on all copies of the W-2? If the copies don't all have the same amounts in boxes 1 through 14 the W-2 is not filled out correctly. You should ask the employer for a corrected W-2.

However, boxes 16 and 17 could be different for different states. Do the different copies have a different state in box 15? If so, it's normal for boxes 16 and 17 to be different for different states. If you lived in one state and worked in a different state, you could have separate state information in boxes 15, 16, and 17 for each state.

Not clear if you actually have more than one physical W-2 from the same employer. If the Employer EIN is the same on all copies, then I would expect only one of them to have the "corrected" box checked. If thats the case, then that is the only one you file.
