When entering information from Form W-2 (or similar forms), you should always try to enter exactly what you see on the printed form. This helps the IRS to match the data in your tax return to the information reported directly by the employer, and minimizes the possibility of a letter from the IRS months from now, asking if you had unreported income.

That said, there are limits in certain data entry fields that cannot be exceeded. If you run into such a problem, type the first 35 (or whatever number is allowed) characters of the information exactly as it appears. Do not try to abbreviate, as that will make the matching more difficult.
