Does a heat pump qualify as an energy improvement deduction? Also, I received $500 from the State already, can I, if I qualify, deduct $500 from my Federal return?

Do I have to report the $500, already received, on my return as income?

A heat pump is no longer eligible for the residential energy credit. That credit has been greatly limited and is generally only available for solar upgrades.

If you received $500 in 2019 from your 2018 state filing, you will report that on next year's return.
