Question

Does anyone know . . . I am over 65. I am filing an Iowa tax return for 2024. Why is TurboTax omitting my medical insurance premiums I paid with after tax dollars?

Net income is under $100K, so I should be eligible.

Iowa states that the federal itemized deductions should be used. I created a return with medical insurance and itemized on federal. Then I created an Iowa return and the federal itemized deductions pulled over to step 4 line 1d and are in the step 5 worksheet.

The federal schedule A for medical expenses counts all expenses over 7.5% of your income. Check your federal sch A to see how much qualified for medical and your total Sch A deduction.

Then check your Iowa return to verify the correct numbers pulled over.
