Does leasing a car count as a "major purchase"? I'm in Washington State.

Yes.

According to the Sales Tax Handbook, a 6.5 percent sales tax rate is collected by Washington State. On top of that is a 0.3 percent lease/vehicle sales tax. This means that in total, the state tax on the lease or purchase of a vehicle adds up to 6.8 percent.

I have the same question for 2024 IRS Federal Tax Return.  Is it still considered a major purchase for leasing an EV Truck ?

Thanks,

No, a leased vehicle doesn't count as a major purchase. However, you can include the sales tax that you paid on the vehicle in your sales tax deduction. Instead of choosing Easy Guide, choose Enter All My Receipts and enter the full amount of sales tax you paid during the year.
