Does placing a child as your dependent and claiming them the same thing?

Yes that is the same thing.  If you need to claim a child as your dependent you enter the child's information including their Social Security number in My Info.

Yes, it is the same thing, you can claim a child as a dependent.  See Page 24 of IRS Publication 17, page 24 for additional information on dependents
