I am a senior filing jointly with my spouse. I have no W-2 earnings but I have earnings from my social security , IRA and K-1. I did the calculation of the EITC. I had no EITC in 2020 but I did in 2019. According  to the Turbo Tax calculation, I am entitled to the EITC with my 2021 filing. I never received a Form 8862 for prior years. However, when I try to file my Fed 1040 and NJ 1040, I am instructed to file manually. Why can I not file electronically?

You must complete Form 8862 and attach it to your tax return to claim the EIC if both of the following apply.

    • Your EIC was previously reduced or disallowed for any reason other than a math or clerical error.
    • You now want to claim the credit that was previously reduced or disallowed and you meet all the requirements for the credit.

    What is e-file reject F1040-164-01?

How do I enter Form 8862?
