You need Form 8862, not 8842.


When you go through the Earned Income Credit section in TurboTax, one of the screens will give you a list of "uncommon situations." One of the uncommon situations is that you got an IRS notice saying that you have to fill out Form 8862 in order to claim the EIC. Check the box for that situation and proceed through the questions. TurboTax will ask you a few questions and fill out the form for you. Form 8862 will be included in your tax return, and it can be e-filed.
