  • My return got rejected because it states I didn't not buy my EV in 2024. I did buy my EV in 2024. I received the 15400 from the dealer which stated my vehicle was eligible for the tax credit. The dealer did not get the credit. I am supposed to get the credit, but my return keeps getting rejected. What do I do? My VIN number and everything else is correct. The IRS is zero help since it is impossible to talk to an actually person about the issue. Super frustrating

There is a new requirement with regard to claiming the EV credit.  Whenever a qualifying vehicle is sold, the dealer who sells the vehicle must register the information about sale with the IRS.  This includes the VIN, who purchased it, the date of purchase, and possibly other information.  You should have been given a copy of this report at the time of purchase.

Be sure that the information you entered into your tax return matches that document from the dealer where you purchased the vehicle.  If it does not match, then your return could be rejected.  If you do not have a copy of the Clean Vehicle Seller Report from the dealer, then you should request one.
