Federal review says I have to check Foreign tax Sch A box. That means include the foreign tax paid as a deduction but I said I wanted a credit. How do I get my credit?

I ignored that part of the review and it continued and did not show a credit in the final summary.

Estimate and other taxes paid is not there, but Estimated Tax payments is the closest thing. There is no Foreign Tax credit there.  The Foreign Tax credit was entered from a downloaded 1099. It did ask for country the first time through, and I indicated the country and that I wanted a credit.

Found it. I went to help and just entered "enter Foreign Tax credit". Last time I just got a bunch of FAQs. This time it gave me a button to click to go to enter/edit Foreign tax credit. I clicked on that and it went through the whole process again except with everything already filled in and, when it asked about deduction or credit, I clicked credit the same as last time and now it gave me the credit.

Yes, retrace your steps to change your choice between the deduction or the credit.

    1. Go to Federal
    2. Deductions and credits
    3. Estimate and other taxes paid
    4. Foreign Tax Credit>start or revisit
    5. When it asks We just need to check if you have any uncommon situations indicate I paid foreign taxes on income I earned while working in another country.
    6. At some point in the interview, it will ask if you wish to take a deduction or a credit.

At this point, indicate that you wish to take a credit.
