I am a widower but Turbo tax suggested filing as a single. Why wouldn't I qualify as a widower in filing my tax status?

    You can file as a widower only if you were widowed in the last two years AND you have a dependent; otherwise you would file as Single.

     

    Naturally, the rules are a bit more complex than that. Please see page 23 in Pub 17 at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p17.pdf
