Question

For 2 children (1 over 6, 1 under) - can you help me figure out why turbotax 2021 seems to be providing the wrong child tax credit?

I have 2 children, 1 under and 1 over 6, and my understanding is that entitles me to a $6,600 tax credit (and this would be reflected on line 5 of Schedule 8812). However, line 5 of Schedule 8812 shows $6,100, and I'm not sure why.  Put differently: having received advanced CTCs totaling $3,300, which should be half, I would assume I have a remaining child tax credit of $3300 to apply to my taxes. Instead, turbotax is telling me it's $2800. Any ideas?

It may be that you have exceeded the AGI limits.  Check What is the Child Tax Credit? to ensure both your children meet all the qualifications and that your line 11 on your 1040 is not over the listed limits.
