For form 1098, Box 2 asks for Outstanding mortgage principle as of 1/1/2018, but I bought the home on 1/26/18. Do I leave that blank?

when you get your 1098_INT, there should be number in box 2 -- provide that. If your particular 1098 leaves that box blank then just put in the full amount of the loan when you closed on 1/26/2018. That should work
