I leave in NJ. I understand in tax year 2018, work expenses can't deduct federal tax any more. However, can it be used as state tax deduction? Turbo tax prompted me that it may help with NJ state tax but the numbers didn't seem change anything. Should I even bother to fill out the work expense part?

No, you cannot deduct work-related expenses on the New Jersey state return. According to the New Jersey Department of Revenue, federal deductions, such as mortgage interest, employee business expenses, and IRA and Keogh Plan contributions are not allowed on the New Jersey tax return.

Please view the New Jersey link below for more information.
