Question

For the adjusted costs basis for my condo sale, how do I answer the question, "Did you ever sell a main home before?", if I sold my past house in Florida 18 years ago?

I sold my condo (primary home) in California in 2024. Do I answer "yes" to the question, "Did you ever sell a main home before?"

    Often, the question will ask if you sold another main home before (sale date of the condo minus 2 years).

     

    Since the other sale was 18 years ago, it will not affect the tax-free exclusion of this sale, nor will it be reported anywhere on your tax return, so you can choose "No."
