Foreign Income Exclusion Physical Presence - Coronavirus complications

Hi all,

I've been trying to find answers about how the Coronavirus will affect the physical presence test for those claiming the foreign income exclusion. I live in Colombia but was traveling in the United States (still under my 35 day limit to claim the credit) when Colombia closed its borders to all international travel. I cannot return to Colombia until May 30 when they have tentative plans to open the border. Therefore I have already gone over the 35 day annual limit for claiming the foreign income exclusion credit.

My question is if anyone knows whether the IRS will offer a grace period for the Coronavirus on this issue, seeing as I physically cannot return to Colombia at the present time. I tried contacting the IRS via web chat, email, and phone and have not received any answer.

There is no information on that topic as yet. Usually when the government changes a tax situation, there is a lot that has to be figured out afterwards.
