Hello, I'm a resident alien that received a 1042-S for gambling winnings. Both federal and state tax was withheld.

Am I filing this properly?

1. Wages & Income → Less Common Income → Gambling winnings → 'Did you receive a W-2G?' No, I didn't → Entered amount I received that were not reported on a w-2g.

Now for the tax that was withheld
2. Deductions & Credits→ Estimates and Other Taxes paid → Income Taxes paid → Other Income taxes Paid in 2024 → Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099 → Entered Federal amount and state amount.

Did I miss a section to enter that these numbers are from that specific form? and Would it be better to Efile or mail my return and include copies of my 1042-s to avoid confusion?

Yes. You may enter this information as gambling winnings in the manner you described. You also are correct in reporting your income taxes paid in the manner you described.

You may electronically file your return.  If the IRS questions you about your 1042-S, keep it with your tax return and explain that this was for gambling winnings and you reported this as gambling winnings in your return.
