Does TurboTax ask about any dependents and will it automatically fill out form 8812 child tax credit ? Or how does this work

Yes, TurboTax will ask about dependents and auto-fill form 8812.

Here's how from How do I add or remove a dependent?:

"1. For TurboTax Online, go to the Personal profile screen.
2. For TurboTax Desktop, open or continue your return and select Personal Info.
3. Select Add another dependent/Edit if you need to add someone. Select the trash can icon next to the name of a dependent to remove them. We'll ask you to confirm before we take them off your return."
