Question

Form 8962 and AGI

On Form 8962, AGI is used to determine PTC limits and entitlements.  For my current 2021 return, I noticed that the AGI amount is from my 2020 tax return and is significantly higher than my 2021 AGI.  Is that correct that the prior years AGI is used?  Shouldn't Form 8962 use the AGI from the same tax year for which the PTC is being calculated?  If so, can I simply go in and override the AGI on this year's 8962 with this year's AGI?  Thanks.

2021 Premium Tax Credit is based on 2021 Modified AGI.    Your 2020 AGI has no effect on things.

Look at Line 2a of Form 8962.  That should show your 2021 Modified AGI, and the calculations should be based on that.

Thanks.  If that is the case then TT apparently has an issue with the software since that field is automatically populated by theTT software.

Update.  My mistake.  TT did calculate the AGI correctly.  By chance it came to within a few dollars of my 2020 AGI, hence my concern and mistake.
