Question

Georgia ad valorem VA disability

I purchased a vehicle last year in Georgia and paid the ad valorem tax at the time of purchase. During that time I had a VA disability claim in progress and it completed this year. I'm now eligible for the exemption and the claim is dated prior to the purchase. Would I be able to deduct the taxes paid on my state return?

Unless you received a refund of the taxes paid on your vehicle, they are still a valid deduction if you are itemizing your federal deductions.

Keep in mind that your total state and local tax deduction is limited to $10,000, and that you must itemize in order to benefit from this deduction.  Therefore, it is possible to enter the data and see no change in your balance due or tax refund.
