We have two 1095A one for myself and spouse and one for my son (he files his own taxes) who we claim as a dependent. We are all on the same policy - do i put each form in separately (each form has the same policy number - but different recipient SSN) or do i just total them both together and put in one.

Also, do i select the option that says: I have at least one dependent on my taxes who's filing a separate return - and enter my son's MAGI when i enter both forms.

thanks

Report the 1095-A for you and your wife on your return.   Is the Policy number on the separate 1095-A for your son the same as yours or is it different, if so then you can report the 1095-A on your son's return?

From my own experience, I have seen where a return has been rejected or processing held up because the child listed on the policy did not report the 1095-A on their return, even though they were listed on their parent's 1095-A.

What I do know is your son's return will mostly be rejected or there will be a delay in processing because he had a 1095-A in his name and he did not report it on his return.   On the other hand, I do not know what happens when the parents are claiming the dependent and you file the 1095-A under the dependent's return.

What I would do is file the 1095-A for your son on his return and the other for you and your wife on yours.    I believe this will be the best-case scenario.   If you get a letter asking about the 1095-A for your son, then you can say that he reported the 1095-A under his return and provide a copy of Form 8962 that was filed with your son's return.

thank you for your answer. I will try that. the policy number is the same for both 1095A;s. I had tried to input the 1095A on my son's return but it gave me a message about since he can be claimed as a dependent then it should go on the parent's return.  I will try to input it again on his return.  Also since both forms have the same policy number I do get an error when i put both in on my return.

If TurboTax will not let you report on his return, then report on your return.   The same would be true if he receives a letter about the 1095-A, then send what you report with the letter as proof it was reported.
