Question

Hi! I had a child in 2021 and I am unable to add them to my tax credit act for credit. I was told and read various articles that I would be able to get credit.

You will get the credit on your 2021 tax return. Just enter the child as a dependent when you prepare your tax return. The credit will appear on Form 1040 line 28.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

The software adds the child tax credit to your refund automatically----and you may not have realized it.   Look at line 28 of your Form 1040 for it.

Thank you! I haven't added in her social security number yet as it is at home so hopefully it'll all work out once I enter that. I did everything else the same as you said! Thank you so much!

When asked how long the  child lived  with your, answer "whole year" per the new born instructions.

Your child born in 2021 is eligible for the child tax credit (and the third stimulus of $1,400 if your AGI allows it).

Your child born in 2021 is considered as having lived with you the WHOLE YEAR.

Please make sure that you have added your newborn child as a dependent in the Personal Info section of TurboTax and indicate that the child lived with you the whole year/
