If I live in CA but rent a home in Nevada in which I live in part time for business is this considered a home office?

You don't say whether or not you are self-employed.  If you ARE self-employed (or required by your employer to have a home office), the home must be your PRINCIPAL PLACE OF BUSINESS. This might help.

Working away from home on a "temporary basis" allows you to deduct your living expenses.  Since you have a separate "home" in which to work, you probably don't qualify for those deductions
