To revisit that section:

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Select Federal from the left menu.
  3. Go to Deductions and Credits.
  4. Scroll down to Your Home and click show more
  5. Click edit next to Property (Real Estate) Taxes
  6. For Property tax reported on your 1098 form, select edit next to Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)

you won't be able to deduct your property taxes if you're taking the Standard Deduction.

Even if you itemize, the SALT deduction, which includes property tax, is now capped at $10,000 ($5,000 for couples filing separately).

If you already filed your return, you have to amend it to make any changes.

Wait until the IRS either accepts or rejects your return.

If the IRS rejects your return, you can make the changes and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. Then you can prepare an amended tax return.

How do I amend my 2021 return?
