Question

How can I edit the amount of property real estate taxes I previously entered? The software keeps going directly to the itemized vs standard deduction page.

I entered in my property real estate tax deduction when I first started doing my taxes. I have since found an additional tax credit that I received this year, so I need to adjust the number that I entered. But the software isn't allowing me to do so. It keeps bypassing that page and going straight to the page telling whether I should do the itemized vs standard deduction.

Please follow these steps to edit property taxes not shown on Form 1098 (Mortgage):

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “property tax”
  3. Click on “Jump to property tax”
  4. Answer "Yes" to the question "Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2020?"
  5. Enter your property/real estate taxes on the next screen.

If you need to edit the property tax from Form 1098 then follow these steps:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1098”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1098”

That solution doesn't work. It still takes you to the standard vs. itemized page and you can't get to the line on tax form to correct it. The 1098 is not the problem. It's somewhere in the tax form itself. It causes a double entry when the 1098 information is added.
