How could I correct the amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit in the Turbotax?

My spouse and I are filing the tax return jointly.
Both of us are resident aliens.
I have SSN, and my spouse only has an ITIN.
I received the second stimulus check($600), and both of us are not eligible for the first stimulus check($1200).

However, when I input the amount to Turbotax, the software shows I qualify for the $1200 Recovery Rebate Credit, which is not correct.

How could I correct the Recovery Rebate Credit from $1200 to $0?

You were excluded from receiving the advance payment (stimulus check), but you are still eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate on your 2020 tax return. If you are a resident alien with a social security number valid for work, you qualify to receive the recovery rebate.

That article is referring to the guidelines the IRS used when issuing the 1st stimulus payments, but that does not mean you are not eligible to receive the Recovery Rebate. If you read further down in that article, it states, ''December's bill also made the mixed-status qualifications retroactive for the first payments. Now an eligible family filing jointly can claim missing payments of up to $1,200 per couple and $500 for each qualifying dependent on their taxes as a Recovery Rebate''.

Why are you not eligible for the first payment of $1200? If you qualify for the stimulus payments, you should have received $1200 for the first one and $600 for the second one. Without an SSN, you are correct, your spouse is not eligible for either. But if you only received the 2nd payment for $600, then you would still be due the first payment of $1200.

The first payment was for $1200 per taxpayer and the second payment was for $600 per taxpayer. If you don't want to claim it or don't think you qualify, then you can tell TurboTax that you received it even though you didn't. If you say that you received the payments, they won't be included in your return.

You are not eligible for a payment if any of the following apply to you:

You may be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.
You do not have a Social Security number that is valid for employment.
You are a nonresident alien.

Based on this report, both of us were non-eligible for the $1200 first stimulus check.
