I have a food blog and YouTube channel with recipes. Where do I put my food expense that I buy for cooking the recipes?

Your food expenses should be treated as supplies, not as meals because the food is necessary for your business, whether you eat it or not.

Meal expense is for when you dine with clients or have meals while you travel.

This is how to enter it:

  1. Open you return and select Federal on the left side menu.
  2. Under  Wages & Income, find Self-employment income and expenses.
  3. Select Review.
  4. Under Expenses, look for Supplies. If you don't find it, click Add expenses for this work at the bottom of the Expenses Summary.
  5. Check the box next to Supplies and click Continue at the bottom.
  6. Click Start to the right of Supplies.
  7. Enter a description like "Food for recipes" or "Food for videos" and the amount.
