Question

How does the child tax credit forgiveness get applied to the tax return because I’m not seeing it applied.

If you are eligible for forgiveness of advanced child tax credit payments, it should show up on Form 8812. There also will not be an amount on Line 19 of Schedule 2.

If you have not yet filed or paid for TurboTax, you can still preview your 1040 to see if there is an amount on Schedule 2. To do this:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select Tax Tools in the left menu (if you don't see this, select the menu icon in the upper-left corner).
  3. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then view your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu
  4. Scroll down until you see Schedule 2 Additional Taxes. Line 19 Additional Tax from Schedule 8812 will have an amount if the full amount is not forgiven. If you do not see a Schedule 2, then your advanced child tax credit payments have been forgiven.
