I am self employed starting 2019 and made the max contribution (25%) to a SEP IRA opened this year. I am filing as a married joint return. My wife earns monet on a w2. Can she contribute the 6000 or 7000 to a regular IRA account .

    Yes, she can, but it may not be deductible. For 2020, the maximum contribution is $6000 or $7000 if you are age 50 or older.

     

    Whether it is deductible depends on income and whether she has a retirement plan at work.
