I chose yes for the american opportunity credit during questionnaire - when I look at Form 8863 line 23 box is checked no?

    Form 8863 Line 23 being checked no is the first step in determining if you are qualified for the American Opportunity Credit for 2020.  No on Line 23 means you are still eligible if you meet the further qualifications that follow.   There is no disconnect or error with you having answered yes in the questionnaire and Line 23 being checked no.
