Question

I didn't have an HSA in 2010. I have one now. The form asks for distributions in 2019. Is this to be from the 2010 account? If so, the form is confusing.

HSA distributions are reported on form 1099-SA which is sent to you by the HSA custodian.

To enter a 1099-SA that you received:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Search for "hsa" in the search box.
  3. Click on "Jump to hsa" link..

After you check off that you have an HSA, almost the first screen is asking if you spent any money out of the HSA.  Answer "yes" (if you did), and enter your 1099-SA information in the subsequent screens.
