I do NOT have a mortgage, so no interest, no outstanding principal, no mortgage insurance, so how do I get beyond this question?

Here's how to enter your mortgage interest statement in TurboTax:

1. Open or continue your return, if you haven’t already
2. Locate the search bar in the upper right of your screen, and search for 1098. Select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
3. Answer NO on the screen Did you pay any home loans in 2021?

The above steps should allow you to move forward with your return. The mortgage interest deduction allows you to reduce your taxable income by the amount of money you’ve paid in mortgage interest during the year. So if you have a mortgage, keep good records — the interest you’re paying on your home loan could help cut your tax bill.
