Question

I do not have an HDHP and it keeps asking me for info for a 8889-T, which I do not have. I have tried to change it and it keeps reverting back.

You don't receive an 8889, TurboTax creates it based on your input.

Do you have a code "W" in box 12 on your W-2? If you do, then your employer thinks you have an HSA and an HDHP.

If you don't have an HSA but have a code W, you need to talk to your employer and get a corrected W-2.

If you really don't have an HSA nor an HDHP and don't have the code W and want to get rid of this message, then do the following:

  • Delete the 8889 form and related forms. Do this by going to My Account (at the top), click on Tools, then on Delete a Form.
  • Delete any "Form 1099-SA" you see, as well as any "Form 8889-T" and "Form 8889-S".

When I try to delete For 8889-T is doesn't delete even though the site says it deleted it. All other forms deleted just fine. I have an HSA and not a HDHP and a W on my main W-2 and its causing the same issues.
