I am confused by the mortgage credit certificate.  I pad mortgage interest on my home and have 1098, can I claim this, if so why are they asking also for an MCC which I do not have.

You must have indicated that you had a MCC when asked.

Enter mcc in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to mcc

On the screen that asks Do you have a Mortgage Credit Certificate? answer NO.  On the screen that asks Do you have a prior year carryover of the mortgage interest credit? answer NO.
