Question

I entered the 1098 box 1 mortgage interest into the deductions, but it did not appear on my 1040 Sched A line 8a ($0 instead). Is this a bug?

I itemize deductions every year because my schedule A deductions are significant. But this seems like a bug because it is big deviation from the behavior of TurboTax 2019.

There could be reasons your mortgage interest is not showing up as an itemized deduction. For instance, your mortgage may be over $750,000, or you may be renting out a portion of your home, and the mortgage interest is showing up there. Also, your standard deduction my be more than your itemized deductions, or you may have indicated in TurboTax that you do not want to itemize your deductions this year.

I suggest you go back through the section where you entered your mortgage interest and make sure you answered the questions correctly in TurboTax.
