Question

I had to pay a fee for finger printing to get my real estate license. I was told it was deductible but not sure where to enter the info?

This is deductible if you are already in the business of real estate or employed in that capacity at the time of the expense.

As an employee this would be deductible in the itemized deductions under job related expenses.  You would want to itemize deductions if the allowable expenses are more than your standard deduction.  Attached is a chart of the standard deduction based on filing status for your review.

  • To record this as an employee business expense while you are logged into your TurboTax Free account follow the steps here (this will require an upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe for itemized deductions).
    • My Account > Tools > Topic Search > Type employee business expense > Go
    • Click the screenshots attached to enlarge and view for assistance.
