Question

I keep checking the box that says we have no foreign accounts but when we go to file, the program says an upgrade is required because we have foreign accounts.

It depends. Do you have a foreign tax credit claimed in your return? Also, check to see if you have a  form that looks like a foreign form in your list of forms.

  1. If using Turbo Tax online, go to tax tools>tools>delete a form.  See if you have a form 1116, 2555, 8938 or nay worksheets that indicate a foreign reference.
  2. If so, delete them.
  3. If using the software, you can select the forms mode to see if these forms exist and if they do, delete them.

Thanks.  Your idea of deleting a form worked.  I actually deleted Schedule B where the wrong box was being checked and it solved the problem!
