Question

I'm a US citizen living in a foreign country. Self-employed earned $10,000. Given the standard deduction, do I need to compute self-employment tax?

Yes, you will need to compute and pay self-employment tax unless you have a "Bilateral Social Security (Totalization) Agreement" and pay Social Security to another country, since it is calculated separately from the income tax.

Please enter your self-employment income and expenses on Schedule C and then enter your Gross Profits in the Foreign Section.
