I'm confused why there is EIC on my return, when I have no children. Is there another purpose for it?

You can qualify for the EIC without having a child.

if you do not have a qualifying child, you can qualify if:
o be age 25 but under 65 at the end of the year
o not qualify as a dependent of another person, and
o live in the United States for more than half the year
