Question

I’m filing for my taxes in Alaska and though I’ve done no forms involving it, Turbotax says I have a financial account in a foreign country. I must buy deluxe to pass?

I live in Alaska. I did no other forms beyond my W-2 and my 1099-MISC. At no point did I say I had a foreign account until the very end when I was about to finish filing.

What do I do?

You must select None of the above on the federal screen titled Tell Us About Any Foreign Bank Accounts. I have attached a picture below for additional guidance.

To navigate to the correct screen, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on Tax Tools.
  3. Click on Tools.
  4. Click on Topic Search.
  5. Search for foreign accounts and trusts, questions on schedule b and click Go.
  6. Click None of the Above and hit Continue.
  7. Select None of the above and No for the following two foreign question screens.
