Question

I'm trying to put in my mortgage interest from my 1098. Your form says, "Box 2-Outstanding principal as of 1/1/2019". Shouldn't that be 1/1/2020?

The form is correct for a Form 1098 tax year 2019.  

IRS Instructions for box 2 on a 2019 Form 1098 -

 

Box 2. Shows the outstanding principal on the mortgage as of January 1, 2019.
If the mortgage originated in 2019, shows the mortgage principal as of the date
of origination. If the recipient/lender acquired the loan in 2019, shows the
mortgage principal as of the date of acquisition.
