I own Canadian stock that I receive dividends from. I cannot select the "Foreign Country" Drop down on the 1099-DIV Worksheet when finalizing. It demands a Zip Code...

Canadian Zip Codes have letters, and "ON" (Ontario) is not valid for "State field either, as the form is assuming address is USA. I have not figured out how to adjust this information manually - Turbo Tax INSISTS it knows best, but clearly lacks this basic info. Cannot remember how I got it to work last year, but that "auto import" feature has never worked for my investments.

The IRS does not require a zip code. You can try entering a dummy or delete the 1099-DIV into and type it in yourself.

Type dividends in Search in the top right
Click Jump to dividends
Say YES to Did you receive any dividend income?
Continue on Get ready to be impressed
On Let’s import your tax info, click Change how I enter my form
Click Add another 1099-DIV
On the screen Let's import your tax info, go to the bottom and select Change how I enter my form
On How do you want to add your 1099‑DIV? choose Type it in myself
On Let’s get the info from your 1099-DIV enter your dividends and capital gains if applicable

I’m having the same issue when doing 2024 taxes. I don’t remember having this issue last year.

Here are the steps to take to report Dividend income:

1. Open turbo tax
2. Income or wages and income in Desktop
3. Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto) Interest and Dividends if in Turbo Tax desktop
4. Select 1099 DIV
5 .Once you get to the 1099 DIV form, enter all information and
then enter the amount of Foreign Tax paid on those
dividends in Box 7.

6. Then a screen will follow asking you the amount of foreign
dividend. If it is strictly Canadian, it will be the full amount.
7. Then it asks, these foreign dividends are from other source.
You will select that and then a drop down will appear where
you can select Canada.
