Question

I own my home outright (no mortgage) through inheritance, but the federal return requires I enter a mortgage date. How do I solve this?

Delete any worksheet created. See How to Delete. Skip the mortgage section completely.

Since you have no mortgage on the property, the only thing I would expect you to be filing in under the "Your Home" section for that specific property, would be any property taxes you paid in 2020.

If the inherited home is a 2nd home for you, then just add up the property taxes paid on both properties and enter the total.

Have you accidently starting completing a mortgage interest worksheet?

In TurboTax Online, you are able to remove the form by:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Delete a form.
  • Find the form listed and click Delete to the right.

Look for a mortgage worksheet or mortgage interest worksheet.
