Question

I qualify for the 3600$ Child Tax Credit. I received no payments in 2021 so I should be getting the full amount. Why isn't the amount reflected in my federal return?

Turbotax shows that I am eligable for a 3600$ child tax credit, but it is not reflected in the federal return.

Did you enter your child as a dependent in My Info?

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

The software puts the child tax credit on your return automatically and maybe you did not realize it.  Look at line 28 of your Form 1040.

Hi,

Thank you for the information. Line 28 does in fact reflect 3600$ for the CTC to be issued. My problem is that my federal return amount on the top does not reflect this amount in the total to be refunded to me.  For clarification, typically when you update W-2's and other information the Federal Return amount will dynamically change to reflect the current refund. After entering the CTC information TurboTax said I was qualified for the 3600$, which is reflected on line 28, but it was not updated in my federal return. Thanks.

Ok... the $3600 credit was reflected in full  in the Refund-O-Meter once you passed the MY INFO section so you do have the credit   BUT   it must pay your tax bill off before it is refundable ... so LOOK at the form 1040 lines 24 to 34 to see how the return is being calculated.
