Question

I qualify for the child tax credit, but it is not reflecting on my total refund amount. Why?

My refund states that I qualify for the child tax refund credit but it is not reflecting on my refund amount total. Why?

    If you don't see the Child Tax Credit you can check your tax return.

     

    The Child Tax Credit is based on the amount of tax that you owe. 

    • This is posted to line 19 on your 1040 tax return

    If the credit exceeds your tax liability, you may be getting the Additional Child tax credit. 

    • This is on line 28.

    To view you tax return:

    From the left sidebar

    1. Select Tax tools. You may have to minimize the Federal and State selection.s
    2. Click Tools
    3. A Menu will pop up
    4. Select View tax summary
    5. On the left panel click Preview my 1040
