Question

I received an additional HSA in the mail from Wells Fargo, that I'm not sure was accounted for in my initial return. How can I know for sure? It is a very small amount

When I tried to add the Wells Fargo information and re-file, the software said that my return didn't change from my initial filing. Also, my company changes HSA's 2 times last year, from Wells Fargo to Optum, so I assumed both would be covered in my W2 anyways, Is that correct?

Thank you! I actually talked over with an Intuit Tax person, and they said my Return should be ok, because when I tried to amend it, it said there were no changes from the initial filing. I think when I was filing, it was able to source the 2nd HSA via ADP (before I received the mail copy) and include it in my initial return. I just wasn't sure how to check this to be sure. Also, since I didn't change employers, but they changed HSA companies mid year, wouldn't my full contribution amount be shown on my W2 anyways?

Yes, you are correct. Changing the HSA custodian account would not affect the W-2. The full contribution would be recorded on the W-2. Glad it worked out.:)

You should amend and include the 1099-SA even if it makes no changes to your taxes. The IRS will match forms.

However, there is no rush. The 1040X form will not be ready until mid-February. In the meantime, make no changes to your original return. This can really mess things up. When the form is ready, select the link below.

If you have already filed your return and it is accepted, wait until the original return is fully processed. If you had a refund/tax payment due wait until you receive the refund or the payment is processed.
