You can deduct the portion of the interest you paid during the year, but since your Form 1098 Mortgage interest statement does not have any social security numbers then you may get an IRS verification letter. We would suggest calling your lender and asking for a corrected 1098 displaying both social security numbers.

In TurboTax, in order to claim the mortgage interest deduction:

  • Federal Taxes
  • Deductions & Credits
  • You Home
  • Mortgage Interest, Refinancing, and Insurance, Click Start
