I replaced my windows in my home in 2024, can I claim what I spent on my taxes?

    No.  The cost for the replacement of the windows on a personal residence, not used as a rental or in a business, is not reported on a tax return.  The cost of the improvement is added the basis of the home when the home is sold.

     

    If these are energy efficient windows then you may be able to get a $600 credit for your total cost.

     

    To enter Home Energy Credits -

    Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
    Click on Deductions and Credit
    Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
    Under Your Home
    On Home Energy Credits, click the start or update button

     

    Or enter energy improvements in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to energy improvements
