I sold my home and had to pay property taxes from 1/1/17 thru 10/10/17 after already paying taxes due in 2017. How to I claim the extra taxes paid

If you paid property taxes up to the date of the sale for your home, deduct in the Your Home section in the property tax category. This is its own category and not entered on with a 1098 form.

  • Sign into your return, then select the 'take me to my return' button.
  • Type 'real estate taxes' in the search box, then select the 'jump to' link.
